From Tulou to Preschool: a Study of Circles
Research and Architecture Design
Precedent Studies: Adaptive Circles
The research starts with two given precedents: the tulou houses and the Museum of Wood Culture. One traditional and one contemporary, both architecture share circular forms, central axes and respond to landscapes and climates. An operative model thus experiments with the above ideas of circular planes and a central axis, designed to be environmentally adaptive.
Final Design: A Preschool in Colima, Mexico
This design concludes the semester-long research by proposing a pre-school design based on previous analysis on curves and adaptive architecture. It flips the curved plans sideways to create interactive landscapes for both kids and adults. The design suggests a centripetal alignment expressed both in plan and in section and connected by an axis, bringing the users into the playfullness of the architecture.
